It is reported that the world’s population was 6 billion in the year 2,000, and it is growing faster and faster. The world’s population problem is the greatest one because it brings lots of problems, such as water resources problem, more and more people losing their jobs and so on. These problems are mainly in the developing countries because the population of the developing countries is over 4/ 5 of the world’s popuation. So China, the largest developing country, has kept the policy “one couple, one child.”
都说二十一世纪是人才辈出的时代，如果说21世纪的人们不会说英语，打电脑和开车，就是新一代的文盲，这句话充分说明了英语在中国乃至世界的重要性！我想，很多人都曾问过这样一个问题：我们为什么要学习英语？或许对台下的各位同学来说，学习英语只是一种任务，仅仅是为了应付考试才不得不学习的。可是，我想告诉大家：英语的用处远不止应付考试获得学位这么简单。虽然联合国有六种官方语言，尽管汉语是世界上使用人数最多的语言，而如今，世界上应用最广泛的语言却是英语。中国的人口最多，中国想要发展就离不开世界，要想在世界立足，在世界范围内寻求自己的出路，不会那种应用最广泛的语言怎么了解其他地区？退一步来说，我们个人想要在世界上闯出一片天地，仅仅局限于国内是远远不够的，闭关锁国的历史虽然已成为过去，但它却时时刻刻告戒着我们要学习外国的先进科学技术来发展自己提高自己！可是，如果语言都不通，甚至连最基本的交流都做不到，我们又如何来谈学习与发展呢？
走出中国这个狭小的圈子，你会发现世界上还有很多让你感到新鲜惊奇的事物，很多美好的东西等待着你去挖掘。也许你会觉得我只是在说风凉话，可是这是千真万确的。只要会说英语，别人就不会把你当井底之蛙看。你也许觉得你现在用不到英文，可是以后呢？
以后用的到怎么办？你说要翻译人才，可是并不是所有人都雇用的起你所谓的翻译人才，如果在国外生活怎么办？如果想和外国朋友聊天怎么办？向这种问题你根本就请不到你所谓的翻译人才。如果我们中国人说，一辈子都不出国，那不就太狭小了吗？而且相信我，香港和台湾人民的英文都很好，大陆人老说人家鄙视他，你也不想想你自己都不及人家的英文水平，你还骂人家干什么，人家比你优越多少？而且很多人觉得学英语只是为了考证，我觉得很错误。因为英语不仅仅为的是考证考学，学好了是为自己，要是敷衍了事，可惜的只是自己。
其实要从长远的国家战略角度来看，我们学习英语是为了更好的学习西方的先进经验和技术，从而更好的发展我们的祖国，只有祖国的强大才能使汉语走向世界，这样我们伟大的中华文明才能更加灿烂！同学们，师夷长技，壮我中华，让我们一起努力把英语学习进行到底！
千禧年钟声过后，中国国民生产总值一路飙升，中国与国际接轨的速度逐步加快。大街小巷上的告示牌上，在方方正正汉字下面，出现了一行行的英文字母；学校内，外语听力逐步替代了语文晨读；社会上，各种语言学校的兴办方兴未艾……人们口中说的、念的，不再是流传了几千年的“之乎者也”，而是简单却拗口的abc，各大会议上时常出现的英文单词和注解，取代了原本的古文成语……
流传至今的汉语啊，你已是伤痕累累，满目疮痍！汉语，在当今社会，似乎被涂抹成一位蓬头垢面，衣衫不整的女子，向人们无声地控诉着自己悲惨的遭遇……
“北外香水女生”的出现，颇受人争议；但其“敢为天下先”，道破现代教育制度下的不公，呼吁着汉语地位的回归，其方式姑且不论，但她的心愿又是多少文学爱好者所共有的！作为古老四大楔形文字中唯一流传至今的文字，汉语在历经战乱变迁、外族入侵、文化动乱等风雨波折之后，难道就此在我们手中消失？当看到日韩仍将古汉语奉为圭臬，置于英语地位之上时，作为中国人的我们何其骄傲，而又是何等不甘！
听！“逝者如斯夫，不舍昼夜”，那是孔子在感慨时间的流逝，告戒后来者不要虚度年华；听！“业精于勤荒于嬉，形成于思毁于随”，那是韩退之在告诉我们做人和做学问的道理；听！“天行健，君子以自强不息；地势坤，君子以厚德载物！”这是古贤人的心声！然而，倘若古贤人回归于现代，当其看见后人口中念的均是英文绕舌时，又会作何感想？睁开眼，我似乎看见了他们流泪的眼和滴血的心。
我不是一个狭隘的民族主义者，我明白外语对于中国与国际接轨的重要意义。但是，一个十几亿人口的国家一定要做到新生儿开口第一句话竟是英文的地步吗？
值得庆幸的是，总还有人不忘汉语的发扬。百家讲坛中，于丹、易中天带我们重温古代先贤的思想；翟鸿森、余秋雨等国学大师、文学作家撰文演讲，引领我们体味汉语带来的感动。
有位清华学子说得好：“今日学外语，是为了将来让全世界学汉语。”但是，请先不要丢失了汉语！

As is known to us,China has the biggest population in the world,which is more than 1,300,000,000.Such a large population causes some problems in cities,that"s the unemployment.Too many people gather in cities and the jobs are not enough.Some graduates can"t find a job though they have left school for years.In addition,traffic jam is another problem resulting from the big population.There are too many cars on the roads and streets.
The situation of the countryside is not good.Too many people live in the countryside and we don"t have enough farm land for them.
Fortunately,our government has realized the problems and has attached great importance to them.The government is trying its best to create more jobs and improve traffic systems.Moreover,the one-child policy has helped a lot.

Progress in science and the improvement of living conditions have led to the rapid growth of the world population. Modern medicine, for example, has made it possible for babies to grow up healthily and for people to live longer. With improved living conditions, particularly in the countryside, people tend to have larger families. As a result, the world population has increased so rapidly that it has now exceeded 6 billion. But the overgrowth of population presents a threat to the existence of human society. A large population demands a GREat deal of food supply and shelter space. However, limited productivity and scarce world resources can hardly meet the needs of the ever-increasing population. Thus, in the long run, the overgrowth of the world population will only harm mankind.

The first thing we can do is to use cloth bags in stead of plastic bags when we go shopping. It helps to protect the environment. The environmental pollution is worse and worse /more and more seriously today . Water is polluted ,we have no clean water to drink Many trees are cutting down, some animals is getting less and less.Some factories is poring dirty air in the sky , the population is increasing faster and faster ,resources is getting less and less…etc. Not only does it affect our lives and health, it also has a great affection in the future. people"s health has been greatly affected by air, noise and water pollution. Many people died of diseases.In order to live a better life, we need protect our world.
